How can I improve Mother and child?

It is nice as is, two suggestions: the photo is cropped to closely at the top, make sure you look through the viewfinder before you shoot to make sure photo is as you like it, and sometimes turning the camera so you take a vertical shot (also called portrait) would serve you better. I think a portrait shot would better here. Lovely young ladies as models, by the way.

Yes, what John said Also, depending on your camera, a longer focal length and wider aperture would blur the background
