I've made similar shots and I think people would be surprised how easy it is to make these beautiful images. Laura would you mind reviving this section of the forums with a description of how this is done? Then maybe find someone else with an interesting photo that they could explain? If not, don't worry. I'll try to jump start it but your's is far more beautiful than any of mine.

thanks Chris....
used my D7000 *nikon* with a nikkor 60mm micro lens
on tripod of course.

I have at least 2 flashes working together on each side...sometime a third one as well.
flowers are placed around the edge of a shallow glass dish that is reflecting the flowers as well.

I use as fast a shutter as I can with a wide open apeture...then with a remote in one had and a dropper in the other i let the drops fall...sometimes I take a paper towel and squeeze water from it to get a lot of drops at once...of course I take about 300 frames and get mayby 5 or so I like....

at times I let the water drop from another flower to add to the composition...it is fun, takes some set up..but WORTH IT!
( set up includes a light box, reflection (can be poster board) two off shoe flashes on slave with small tripods or bases, flowers and bowl at eye level )oh and water *grin*

Id love to know the soft ware and tech C and Mike use for their art!

Very cool, thanks for giving up some of your secrets Laura. Great colors and results on this particular example.

Laura, thanks for sharing. I've always done a plain, colored paper background. Your backgrounds are so much more vibrant. I'll be sure to try something like that next time.

I would also be very interested in hearing about the tools and processes that C and Mike use. HINT, HINT C and Mike!

Hello guys! Hey so All of my photos I've taken are to small for this site, is there anyway I can add pixels to a photo or did I just waste 30 bucks?

what are you shooting with///what size are you shooting at? One can uprez...but it often KILLS quality....

shoot more at the finer setting and load those, that is not a waste, just a lesson!!!

Hi Nathan,

While you can always 'add pixels' to make an image larger, you cannot add the corresponding detail because it quite simply isn't there in the first place.

So, by adding pixels you are essentially spreading out the detail from the original... If doubling the width and height then what would have been one pixel to start with will be 4 pixels in the enlarged version... The effect would be, if the two are viewed side by side from the same distance, the larger one will appear blurred.

There are software tools available that do allow such up-sizing using better techniques than simply rescaling, but while you may get away with it subjectively for very modest enlargement ratios, by the time you go much above 1.4 times enlargement you are into rapidly diminishing returns... and at a quantitative level the upsized version will always be of lower quality than the original.

Rob

Thanks for sharing your technique, Laura. Your water drop shots are very eye catching.
