my hubby is considering getting me the very portable, and very cool (looking) Nikon V1 system....I thought I would ask if anyone here has tried it, looked into it or anyother ideas about it?

I looked at one at Target and found out that the camera is well built. The Nikon can shoot 1080p video and stills simultaneously. I do not own one but there is a message board chat over at DpReview. Many camera manufacturers are coming out with high performance point and shoots with larger sensors. The Nikon J1 and V1 are part of growing trend to provide people with compact cameras that take high quality photos and perform well under low light conditions. Before buying the Nikon VI I would wait to see what people think of the Canon G1X. This camera has a sensor the size of a DSLR with a built in zoom lens. It will have to be carried in a large coat pocket or camera case but is smaller than DSLR's. The link below will take you to the Nikon 1 System talk. You can also navigate to Canon G1X talk by going back to forums. Panasonic may release an update to the LX5 as well. I would wait until putting some money down. Hope this helps.

thanks Richard,,,they will have an adaptor that allows my nikkor lens such as my micro and such....I really like how compact it is, and portable, so I wouldnt have to take my big bag with big lenses on every outing!!

Stick with your D7000 Laura. Although I can't blame them, this is simply a marketing ploy by Nikon to get consumers to spend more money.

I wondered about that.,..however...ai really would like a smaller unit with some quality for travel....my son wants me to go to Europe with him in a year, and Id love to go back to Israel...and my 7000 and 90 are bulky...with my film camera, I had to pack it under (not carry on) because it weighed too much when I flew to Israel last time,,,I really dislike NOT having my camera with me.

plus..my Stephen can afford to pamper me!!! ( sorry to sound like a brat)

hmmmmm is there a point and shoot worth getting, I havent found one

absolutely.......a camera that fits in my purse with quality above the average point and shoot.....I have carried point and shoots for that unexpected sunset, rainbow, traffic inccident, bird sighting etc...but they are all weak.....

then again I could end up looking like the subject in R!TAs thread
