I haven't had any of my photos rated in weeks or any possible sales. I hope real hopes for my photos on Shutterpoint, but nothing has happened in 6 months. I have uploaded many different types of pictures and themes, some that I'm very proud of....with no luck. Do I need to find a different stock photo sight?

wanda, there are many who feel as you do...and there are photogs with highly rated images that have sold very little..so the rating and or mumber isnt alwys the reason.

I looked at some of your images, and peaked at your german sheppard shot ( with the blue flowers) although I didnt look closely, this image looks very marketable, I DID NOTICE VERY FEW KEYWORDS!!!

ok 1 without keywords a photo seeker will never find your images, this sight or any other! add any and all keywords that might fit...canine, dog, dog in flowers, spring, spring flowers, field, dog sitting, sitting dog in field, fielld of flowers, blue, blue flowers, police dog, etc, etc.

and just as vital #2 thin out and replace FREQUENTLY with better imagers WEEKLY
really get seen, be active, its been more then a month since you added works....keep adding better work, I saw a few outstanding, sharp,... interesting images..I also saw images that were more suited for a memory book ....glean your work monthly, purge and replace...keep fresh....

visit the forums to ask for help when needed or wanted, and sometims the help is tough love, but it does help...

best to you

hi wanda, i'm a newbie on this site,i've only been registered for a week, and although i have only a few images on show, for me its about being out there, and i agree with laura about keeping it fresh, i will have to upgrade my storage before i can put anymore on, but untill then i will be refreshing mine with different images every couple of weeks, don't get too disheartened, keep positive and keep taking great photos

3 pieces of advice

1- Keywords. Ensure that all relevant single words are present separated by commas (emphasis on relevant). You can use phrases like "black and white" but pretty much useless here. For example, do a search for black and white paint horse - your image doesn't show because you have "horse, paint, black and white," instead of "horse, paint, black, white,"

2- Look at "what's selling" (careful of all the nudes)

3 - Look at similar images to what you're uploading and if they look better (and not all of them will), try and figure out why and learn from it.

Wanda:
I've been looking at your images and pretty much echo all of the above. I noticed some seem to be fairly dark which may indicate that you need to adjust your monitor a little. You need to add a bit more color to get the attention of the viewer,if they open a page of potential images they will go to the one that draws eyes to it first.
Sales may not be impressive, but don't be too discouraged this, is a good place to hone your skills and there isn't much point in going somewhere else because the situation is pretty much the same everywhere, a few buyers and a surplus of sellers The ones selling are the ones who stand out in the crowd which is what you have to aim for.
Always remember free advice is worth what you pay for it, sometimes even more.
Have fun and enjoy what you do!

Now that you new members have been roped in to SP and paid your subscription fees, the best advice is keep uploading quality work and hope for the best.

SP is not known for high sales volume (unless you shoot porn).

Thanks for all of the great advice, especially Laura's. I will spend some time redoing images, descriptions and keywords.
It's a shame about the porn....I picked this sight because of it being user-friendly.
My photography has slowed down with the cold weather.
Thanks again, Wanda

Actually, winter is a great time for outdoor photography. Snow and ice scenes are great to shoot and the light is good pretty much all day long because of the low angle of the sun.

Totally agree. Don't look at "What's Selling" and try to copy. Come up with your own ideas and do them well.

Marketable is what you make it.... how many times have I been to Waitrose for a couple of pints of milk and come back with a car-boot-load of stuff I don't need and am never going to be able to eat before it all goes furry!

I guess I was just saying that now that I have renewed, I have had absolutely no interest. Up to this point, my photos were rated regularly. Think I've been taken!

I dont think you have been taken...Ive been here almost 3 years and have sold 71 images so far...I upload almost daily, I have removed almost all of my original images and replaced them with better ones...I post to face book, I get my business card out there...

I have learned that although we PAY to store here, we are not overly screened, or pushed into a style by the administration...we sink or swim on our own.....
other stock sites might not charge, but you pay in the limiting of your personal viewpoint, as they reject much
art sites are not stock sites, so there is a limitation there too

shutterpoint , even with its flaws, has a forum unlike other sites, that , although reduced in numbers, still has a lot of good information and banter to offer.

it takes up to a year of being online to get your views up to the point that you are the cream on a search ...dont give up too fast,,,,
and many have stopped rating...I stopped as I did not have fast internet, and could not use the large view to fairly rate,

SP is what it is and ratings are something that should really be discontinued anyway since they mean nothing in the scheme of things.

I understand the feeling. I registered on the fourth of Jan 2012 and hove only sold one photo so far, even though most uploads have been female nudes, although I have noticed the uploaded images seem cool compared to the originals on my hard drive, maybe it's something to do with converting from pro photo rgb to srgb. Nevertheless, the images are there if anyone wants to discover them and buy, unlike on flickr, for instance.

As for ratings; I really don't understand this concept. The photos posted to SP are adverts and product rolled into one. I never did see, for instance, a car advert which allowed rival manufacturers space to point out the advertised product's supposed deficiencies, and to rate it less than pluperfect.

Thomas,

A sale in the first week is pretty exceptional on this site - probably the only site where nudes will outsell more traditional stock images - here's a link to a discussion on one of the independent fora on the topic.

Hi Mike,

The link doesn't work.

You have some pretty heroic images there.

I'm not sure about nudes outselling other categories. My homepage shows a nude image being viewed every second or so, yet the 'What's selling' section doesn't reflect that viewing rate.

I've signed up for a year, so we'll see how things go.

Funny about the link - works for me even when I log out of MSG - anyway the gist seems to be that nudes don't really do well in microstock so SP is a bit of an exception. Don't try and relate views to sales - I've had over 38K views in 6 months which has only translated into 6 sales
