Dedicated portrait lenses are best. These are primes f/2.0 or f/2.8.

Other option will be macro lens like Canon 100mm f/2.8 EF, Tamron 90mm f/2.8 1:1, or Sigma 105mm f/2.8

Macro primes have same beautiful bokeh as dedicated portrait lenses.

I suggest the Canon 85mm, f1.8. A portait lens should a short telephoto with wide open iris being f2.8, preferably beyond f/2. You want shallow depth of field. Go to dpreveiw.com for really good info. Peace, Sven

I agree with Kisats. Back in the day of film, I used a 100mm in all circumstances whether it be taking photos at concerts or portrait studio, it was perfect.

Maybe a 100m is too much if you use a 1.6-crop sensor?
