Has anyone got the new Olympus E510 dSLR or seen any technical and test reviews. I've seen some technical data reviews but no test results on the cameras performance or image quality.
Would appreciate any info or links to reviews on this machine.
Regards, Alan.

I currently have the E500, and the E510 looks interesting especially with the live preview on the screen.

Personally I have two gripes about the 4/3rds system. The size of the sensor makes it relatively noisy, especially at higher ISO. The standard fly by wire manual focus is awkward to use, and doesn't seem to work very well. The 2x crop factor is not good for getting quality glass that is wide enough without spending mega bucks.

However I love the E500 when used with Nikkon or M42 fit lenses (using an adaptor), and the anti-dust system is brilliant.

Hope the E510 proves me wrong on the 4/3rd sensor, but will have to wait and see. Olympus really need to pull something out of the bag, otherwise they may well be toast.

Why are you wanting the Olympus, and what are your aspirations ?

Hi Alan,
Thanks for your comments, I have a Lumix FZ30 at the moment and its good for my maritime photography but i have some noise problems now and again but with a few tweeks on PSP 9 its fine.
I would now like a handy sized dSLR to do more macro work and jobs where a long zoom is not necessary and saw the Olympus E510 on the marker but am not sure how this model is as far as noise goes. I have no interest in an Nikon or a Canon only because there prices are to much for what you get. and i have used Olympus and Pentax 35mm SLRs in the past and they had nice models at decent prices so my priority is a small sized dSLR at 10Mp with a good selection of lenses and with a minimal noise problem, also at a decent price. If the E510 has not to much a problem as far as noise goes i would choose that but i will have to see some test results first before i decide.
Anyway thanks again for your input.
Regards, Alan.

Hi Alan,
Just thought that I would add, you said in the previous post that you aren't interested in Canon or Nikon because of the price, well at b&h the Canon Rebel XTi (400D) is cheaper than the E510 and you get way less noise on the Canon than you would on the Olympus they are both compact sizes. Here are the links to the 2 cameras at B&H:

Olympus E510 at B&H

Canon rebel XTi (400D) at B&H

Hope this helps,
Gabe

Hi Gabe,

Thanks for the info on the Canon and the store, i will check it out for sure. I'm not against Canon cameras but some of there models are a bit expensive but this model might fit the bill, thanks again.

Regards, Alan.

Hello...does anyone sell anything with Olympus cameras? I purchased the newest model the E-5 and get excellent photos. With various quality lenses. I am learning that I have so much to learn in the technical areas of photography and seldom see poeople give good reviews for Olympus gear. Your thoughts?
