I'm thinking of replacing my old clamshell phone (vintage museum-quality except for the annoying crack across the Send key ;-).

Does anyone have a smartphone that also takes good pictures? I need one that I can SEE to operate (no teeny-tiny buttons please). Senior citizen here! Thanks!

Connie,
My Nokia E72 takes good images for its purpose, that is, viewing in the mobile or uploading to a blog or to Facebook and such. It's 5Mpix (though I normally use it at 3Mpix) and one major issue is the lack of sharpness, what I believe is caused by overcompression, given the size of the files, but then it's an issue only when you view images at 100% zoom. It has some useful override functions such as EV adjustments and WB selection.

Thanks, Laura and Adelaide. I'll see what I can find via the site, and continue to ask around. Fortunately I have a little more time.

Connie,

Here you can see photos taken with my Nokia, which I later saved in a text file. As you can see, they are small, and at that size they do look ok. Most were taken outside the auto mode (especially for WB) and edited in the smartphone's app (brightness, contrast, cropping - no color correction, so it was fundamental to adjust WB before shooting).

Thanks so much for sending that link, Adelaide. Very helpful. I'm skittish about camera-phones, for I've seen some images from them that really disappointed me. Unfortunately one was a group shot that can never be redone.

Yours, on the other hand, look real nice. In fact, when I have the time I'm going back to your blog to enjoy all that you posted. The colors looked nice, and I couldn't see any obvious problems with resolution at the sizes shown.

Fortunately I already knew there was a big difference in image quality from these camera-phones. Naturally I want to get the best one I can, not that I'm planning to post any here. Just want to have a little camera in my purse.
