I've somehow managed to crack the LCD screen on my Canon 40D. Its obviously taken a large wallop sometime but I cannot remember when this could have happened.
The camera functions perfectly and I can see all the on screen menus and pictures. However there is an impact point in the top left hand corner and several carcks across the screen. There is a thick plastic screen protector over the surface, whether this is holding it in place or whether it is OK anyway I'm not quite sure.

My question is, how easy is it do get this repaired?; would it be the end of the world if I didn't get it repaired (funds are very tight at the moment)?; does anyone have any experiences of similar?

If it's too expensive I'd say no, as long as you can still see the menus and images. If not then go for it.

Peter:
Contact canon usa.com and they will give you an estimate for factory service. As long as it is ok I would start saving to get a full factory service at which time they will make repairs, give it a thorough going over and cleaning. They also have an exchange program in case the repairs are too costly. I have used them a couple of times and have been very satisfied with the service they provided.

I am sure the next step will be the electronic image, and hope I shall live to see it. I trust that the creative eye will continue to function ,whatever technological innovations may develop.

Thanks for the above tips.
Good news is that I've discovered its actually a glass screen protector that is broken (I didn't realise it was there as the camera is second hand).
All I have to work out now is how to remove it, presumably its glued into place somehow but don't want to tackle it till I'm sure it won't leave a mess.
