Photographer's Description

Since we are beset with range and forest fires out here. I pulled this slide from the archives. It was taken in my early years at the top of Chinook Pass of Mt. Rainier on a smokey day when the fires turned the sky orange and I helped it along with an orange filter and underexposure of 2 stops.

These are some of my favorite types of shots. Simple, with the focus on the sky, color and light. Love the way the clouds and smoke have held the brilliant reds throughout the sky. The reflection off the lake completes the scene nicley. Powerful and dramatic!

Great composition with the reflection of the sun on the water. Brilliant colors.

I've always loved how the sky looks during a fire (unfortunate means to the end). Fantastic capture!

I always appreciate the photographers description, so I am able to understand how a powerful shot like this is achieved. The underexposure makes it very striking, so does the orange filter.Great picture!

Fantastic color, both in the sky and the bright reflection on the lake. This is surely an awesome cautionary tale.

Like a shot from a movie mike!! It's dark and mysterious; the glint of water in the lower corner is superb!!! The sky refects the description you've written, sooooo strong !!
