Photographer's Description

The historic Deanery Tower lit up next to the silhouette of St Mary's Church at sunset in the Suffolk market town Hadleigh. The Deanery Tower was completed in 1495 - one of many examples of the old English architecture and historic buildings for which this small market town is famous. This brickbuilt gatehouse was intended to be the gateway to a grand residence commissioned by the then Archdeacon Pykenham but never built. It was also in this tower three centuries later that the (High Church) Oxford Movement was formed.
