Photographer's Description

American Bumble Bee on purple flower. 7/8". Body robust, hairy; mainly yellow, with black accents. Wings smoky. Gathers nectar; pollinates flowers. Nests underground. Stings but is not aggressive. Is found in open areas; woods. This was taken in the Alexandria Bay, New York area.
