Photographer's Description

A statue of Terry Fox where he ended his "Marathon of Hope" near Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Terry is legendary in Canada, a true hero. After having lost his right leg to cancer, in 1980 at the age of 21 he set out to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research, at times running as much as 48 km each day with one artificial leg. He started in St. John's, Newfoundland in April 1980 and got halfway across the country (5,376 km or 3,339 miles) when his cancer came back. He was forced to abandon his run and died in June 1981 after having raised 24 million dollars. Today runs are held in his honour every year in 60 countries and 360 million dollars has been raised for cancer research. He is the youngest person to be awarded the Companion of the Order of Canada. 50% OF ALL SALE PROCEEDS WILL GO TO THE CANADIAN CANCER SOCIETY (I am not affiliated with them)
