Beachgoers enjoy a sunny day at Arpoador Beach, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Arpoador is also a favourite spot during summer to watch the sun setting towards the Dois Irmãos (Two Brothers) Hill, seen in the background, a famous landmark of Rio de Janeiro. In this scene, you can also see Leblon and Ipanema beaches, all bathed by the Atlantic Ocean.

Very nice storytelling image. The umbrellas make fore a good foreground element and the line of sunbathers and then swimmers lead the viewer into the image to the water and eventally to the mountains and clouds.

This is a great shot with super travel brochure potential. I am wondering if it would help/ or hurt/ to try and bring down the blacks a little???? Not sure if you know this trick, but create an adjustment layer, desaturate it, and invert it, then overlay. You will probably need no more than a 50% overlay. What this does is lighten the dark areas and darken the light areas, reducting overall contrast but also bringing out the details in the dark areas a little more. Sometimes, in high contrast situations as this, I will also use the eraser on some of the light areas in the adjustment level so that I am just bringing out the details in the dark areas. A great shot though Maria.

I really like this beach photo depicting life on the beach in Rio de Janeiro. There is a lot of interest created with all the goings-on. The mountains and clouds in the background and the colored umbrellas in the foreground create depth. My eye travels into it and around. I look at all the people and never get bored. Madeline Ellis
