Obelisk at Place de La Concorde with Eiffel Tower on the background.

Place de la Concorde was built in the 18th century and is the largest public square in Paris. During the French Revolution, it was the site of more than a thousand beheadings in the guillotin, including Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, Danton and Robespierre. The 3300 year-old obelisk, built by pharaoh Ramses II, is 23m high and weighs 230 tons and was installed in 1833. It was brought from Luxor, Egypt, were its pair still stands.
