Late afternoon sun and approaching storm clouds cast ominous shadows on the Río Grande Gorge at its confluence with the narrower gorge of the Río Pueblo de Taos; A sense of scale is provided by the dirt road in the foreground; Also known as Cañon del Río Grande, the plateaus on either side of it slope gently downward to the chasm, thus the apparent distortion in the photo, which I snapped from a nearby mountain; A glimpse of the famous river itself can be seen in the lower left;
