This dam, much like Grand Coulee and Hoover Dam provide valuable hydroelectric power to major metropolitan areas. In the case of Ross Dam, is a major provider to Seattle, Washington and surrounding areas. The North Cascades Highway has some awesome sites. Look for these in photos soon to be uploaded here....the Glacier National Park of Washington State!

  • Stock photo: The great winter constellation Orion "the hunter" rising through the trees as the glow of the moonlight from the rising moon follows. The trees appear blurred with stars drifting through as this was a 15 minute time exposure with the camera tracking the stars while the earth rotates in the opposite direction.

  • Stock photo: The shores of Lake Tahoe taken from the Nevada (east) side of the lake. This is an amazing place to explore with bike riding all around the lake, water and snow skiing, upscale golf courses, gambling in Tahoe as well as nearby Reno. Interesting fact: If this lake were to be drained and all the water poured over the State of California, it would cover the state to a depth of 14"....wow! Come and visit sometime.

  • Stock photo: The Andromeda Galaxy is our sister galaxy. Nearly identical to our own ’Milky Way’ at 100,000 light years in diameter, this amazing spiral galaxy is 2.2 million light years away and yet we can see this with the naked eye! Imagine traveling at 186,000 miles per second for that length of time! There is not much grain, rather myriad stars in the central portion of the galaxy. The small oval in the upper left is a companion galaxy loaded with stars! Questions, feel free to contact me.

  • Stock photo: Patos Island Lighthouse, the northerly most island in the San Juan group. This island offers excellent salmon and bottom fishing just off the light and there’s a snug little cove just to the right for overnight moorings. • Stock photo: Strong currents below the towering Deception Pass Bridge that links northern Whidbey Island, Washington to the mainland are created with strong rising or ebbing tides flow. This photograph taken from atop the bridge at 175 feet above the water shows one such whirlpool that is over 25 feet in diameter and over 6’ deep. One reason boaters so loath this portal to the San Juan Islands during rushing tides.

  • Stock photo: The Great Nebula in Orion is located 1,600 light years from earth. To the naked eye it appears as a small misty patch of gray in Orion’s sword. With binoculars and small telescopes it becomes a pale green. As the naked eyes don’t pick up red light well, it takes either very large telescopes or photography to bring out the red colors. SR-G32000 film was exposed for 15 minutes through an 8" Schmidt Cassegrain telescope to capture this view - a bit of grain due to the high-speed film.

  • Stock photo: First quarter moon taken in March of 2004 using a 127mm Maksutov telescope with electronic drive. The camera was an older Sony 2mp but the image turned out well AND PRINTS OUT BEAUTIFULLY TO 8"X10" and probably won’t notice any appreciable drop off in resolution up to 11"x14" or more despite the file size. I have one in my office and another in the house and they are contrasty, sharp and exquisitely detailed. Now I’ll be shooting with a 10.2mp and a 279mm scope - stay tuned. If you can find a sharper lunar quarter shot here - buy it! Bob
