  • Stock photo: This is the beautiful Andaman day gecko (Phelsuma andamanensis), which is endemic to the Andaman islands of India. This reptile is commonly seen in plantations of areca and banana, but is pretty shy in its habits. It was quite a challenge to get this close-up shot.

  • Stock photo: This picture of the mudskipper and fiddler crabs was taken in the mangroves of South Andamans, India. Mudskippers are among the most hilarious creatures I’ve ever seen ! If you observe them for some time, you will most often find yourself smiling or laughing at them ! I for sure did. These amphibious fish kept me entertained for half an hour or so everytime i watched them. On one instance, I saw a mudskipper taking a ride on the back of a snail. I so wished I could get a snap of that !

  • Stock photo: This praying mantis was crossing the road, hoping to make it to the scrub jungle on the other side. I was riding my motorcycle pretty fast and was glad to notice this most amazing creature. It looked so funky and out of this world ! It was so perfectly camouflaged once it was back in its natural surroundings. When these creatures move, it is extremely interesting to watch them. It is as though they are doing a break dance + taichi !

  • Stock photo: This is the Indian chameleon (Chamaeleo zeylanicus). A polular misconception is that chameleons change their colour according to the background. In reality, they do so based on their their temperament (tensed, agitated, relaxed) and for communication amongst them or to enance heat absorption.

  • Stock photo: Quite amazing how I noticed this snake. I was reading a book in the balcony of the hut I was living in and suddenly heard a strange sound of either a bird or frog being eaten. I just looked down among the bushes and was amazed to see this snake feeding on a freshly-hunted frog. What a sight ! The frog was making strange sounds, desperately trying to free itself from its predator’s jaws. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on whom you sympathize with, the frog had absolutely no chance of fighting its fate ! I also have shots of the snake eating the frog, but didn’t come out very well.
